Neosight™ Technologies accelerates model driven internet application development lifecycle with BoldExpress™ Studio

Guernsey, British Channel Islands – 1st November 2002 : Neosight Technologies Limited (neosight.com) today introduced the first version of its BoldExpress Studio, a comprehensive product suite designed to complement Borland’s Delphi Architect development tool. With BoldExpress Studio, Neosight strengthens the Bold Model Driven Architecture (MDA) offering of Borland by flattening the learning curve, enabling the Bold architecture for centralised deployment and opening it to the latest internet W3C standards, most notably SOAP Web Services. Neosight’s strategy is aligned to that of Borland's which is to accelerate software development and provide rapid return on investment for enterprises with complex distributed application needs.

Neosight's Founder and Chief Technology Officer Christophe M. Floury said, "Neosight aims to make available our 4 years of experience in Bold (now Delphi Architect) and MDA, and become the No.1 source for professional services and complementary technologies to the Borland MDA offering. Neosight BoldExpress Studio is the software building block of our subscription based knowledge service which will include a repository of white papers, utilities and real-life example applications. This initial release of the Studio is aimed at Internet technologies but its intended scope is much wider and aims to bring the Delphi Architect Framework to the point where it becomes an Application Framework, where the gap between modelling and producing a deployable application is significantly reduced in time and knowledge. Subscribers to BoldExpress Studio will be provided with all the information, methods, utilities and components to build real-life, secure, scalable and distributed applications that embrace all the capabilities of the UML. Work has already started to include our UML Statemachine executor and partnerships are being forged with other experienced firms such as TimeWarp Engineering, LLC to cover other model driven areas such as security and advanced rich-client frameworks”.

About the BoldSynapse technology
The included BoldSynapse technology is designed to instantly turn any MDA application developed using the Borland Bold technology into a set of secure and scalable Web Services exposing both the Bold generic object manipulation API and modelled custom operations to enable integration with other technologies such as Microsoft .Net and Sun J2EE.

“The Bold technology included in Borland Delphi Architect in itself is currently the most productive business application development platform available. Since version 2.5, the platform opened up to other software platforms via COM support. With BoldSynapse, Delphi Archtect becomes the most productive platform for implementing robust and well-designed SOAP based Web Services in a fraction of the development time usually associated with such projects.” said Chris Tostevin-Hall, Chief Operations Officer at Neosight.

To achieve this simple goal, BoldSynapse solves complex problems such as exporting Bold data as XML without programming, adding authentication to SOAP services, solving scalability issues with multiplexing and incremental result sets, turning object-oriented models into procedure-oriented Web Services.

About BoldRetina
The included BoldRetina technology is an easy to install Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) plug-in that provides a complete web-based default user interface to instantly deploy any Bold application. BoldRetina expands on the BoldSynapse technology to provide a total replacement of the Bold presentation layer for the Web in the shape of an innovative, extendable library of XML-bound controls built with XSLT. BoldRetina goes much further than traditional component libraries as it is a true application framework offering solutions to login, menus, navigation, object forms, edit, method invocation, error handling, searching and more.

“The innovative use of declarative XSL Transformations to build a component library proved to be one of the best architectural decisions we made. Imperative general programming languages (GPL) such as Delphi and C# yield massive libraries and are not suited to the automatic generation of user interfaces. The concise power of declarative, purpose built transformation language such as XSLT meant incredible productivity and flexibility for both the component developers and users. Thus the attractiveness of absolute positioning based WYSIWYG editors such as Visual Studio.Net or IntraWeb drastically diminished. The productivity and openness associated with compilation-free W3C standards is a real advantage. The context-sensitive, node pattern matching power of XSLT brings us closer to the next revolution in software development: Generative programming.” said Christophe M. Floury, Chief Architect of BoldExpress.

About Neosight™ Scalability Server
Scalability Server, of which a cut-down version is shipped with BoldExpress, is Neosight’s software-based switch for deploying SOAP based applications. It runs as an NT service and load-balances SOAP messages across several instances of a single SOAP application. Scalability server enables the massive scalability of Bold applications required by Internet deployment.

About Neosight
Neosight Technologies Limited was incorporated in Guernsey, British Channel Islands in March 1998. The company's founders Christophe Floury and David Bartlett formed Neosight on the principle that effective IT and software development could be achieved by applying automation to the development process itself.  The then nascent Unified Modelling Language was seen as the blueprint repository from which to automate.

Neosight quickly realised the revolution and genius behind the Bold architecture and became one of the first users to successfully build large financial applications without assistance. In 1999, Neosight became a Bold Knowledge Partner and part-owner of the privately owned BoldSoft AB. Neosight is now a Borland Technology partner following the acquisition of the Bold technology by Borland.
